More Info The Juneteenth celebration is a reminder of the end of slavery in the United States. The freeing of slaves started with Abraham Lincoln's signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862. However it was not until June 19, 1895 that the last of the slaves in Texas were freed.

Our Celebration of this historic moment is one of the Friends major projects. "The Blues & Sweet Potato Pie Festival" takes place each June and features lot...s of exciting, yet educational attractions. Designed to help the unemployed and underemployed obtain employment and increase their marketable skills, the Urban League of Broward County's economic empowerment programs promote self-sufficiency while preparing participants to enter the workforce. The goal is to break the cycle of poverty and level the economic playing field. This department consists of two program components: Wealth Building and Employment and Training.

BUYEP - Broward Urban Youth Employment Program is a program for youth between the ages of 18-24. The program provides educational and career preparation services.
